Jean Gillespie
Jean’s work searches for the hidden histories and energies within landscapes and how these can be revealed through drawing. She finds marks and textures which have developed over time and documents these to reveal a kind of poetic archeology. Along with drawing, Jean’s work uses text, poetry, printmaking, photography, sound and video to create an imaginative space to think about our impact on nature.
Recently, collecting archival materials from sites of post-Industrial extraction, Jean has combined them with first-person documentary- style interviews to make short videos and sound pieces showing how our ties to these landscapes continue to both strengthen and challenge us today.
She is presently researching the viability of natural inks in
printmaking for contemporary artists while looking at how colour has shaped our lives.
She is a member of Edinburgh Printmakers and her work can be
seen in A LA LUZ ( https://www.alaluz.org/ ) and ArtCan
